ESS Technologies ESS 198x Driver. Last year I upgraded my Compaq 5BW250's operating system from
File Contents: Millenium to Windows 2000. After
the upgrade, the ESS 198x sound card stopped working. Recently, I found a solution. From the Compaq driver site

I downloaded the following two service paks
SP17455.exe (dated 5/16/01)
SP17311.exe (dated 4/11/01)
SP17455 upgrades the System ROM and SP17311 installs the ESS 198x sound card.
After installing the two files I now have sound.
